Disney Orders Third Season of Good Luck Charlie

We expected that Good Luck Charlie would be renewed for a third season, but you never know with Disney. If you need a reminder of that, just ask any Phil of the Future fan. Production is scheduled to resume in Los Angeles for a season premiere in early 2012. …
"Good Luck Charlie" has also inspired a Disney Channel Original Movie, "Good Luck Charlie, Its Christmas!," set to premiere in December, starring the cast along with guest stars Debra Monk ("Damages," "Greys Anatomy") and Michael Kagan ("Desperate Housewives").

Wow! Our first Save Im in the Band Day got our movement off to a great start. We lit up twitter and sent over a thousand emails to Disney! Of course, we still have a lot of work to do.
As mentioned above, our second Save Im in the Band Day will be this Friday May 6th 2011. You should use the next few days to help us get the word out to more fans. And please be sure to send paper letters as well! Depending on where you live, you should start sending them in today.

May Disney Channel Highlights

The May Disney schedule looks quite bizarre There are no new episodes for anything scheduled for the second half of the month. Are they just not ready to announce their plans that far in advance? If not, is there any particular reason? At SDS we’re puzzled, but we will find out in time.
This month will include the final episode of The Suite Life on Deck and the first episode of Disney’s new series ANT Farm.

Disney’s new man at ABC Family

Disney’s new plan for ABC Family channel includes a new president for the network, Michael G. Riley. In this new article and interview, he discusses the changes at the channel and their plans gong forward.
Mr. Riley was deeply involved with the casting and scheduling of the new shows and will start wooing advertisers this week in New York. In addition to "The Nine Lives of Chloe King," the new dramas Mr. Riley will be promoting this week include "Switched at Birth," the story of two teenage girls who were mixed up as newborns. "The Lying Game," meantime, is a mystery about twin sisters.
The goal for "The Great State of Georgia," in which Raven-Symon stars as an aspiring actress with a larger-than-life personality, is to create a comedy block on Wednesday nights. It will be paired with "Melissa & Joey," a successful returning series starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence.

Is Hellcats in trouble?

A lot of our readers no doubt remember Aly Michalka from Phil of the Future and Ashley Tisdale from The Suite Life and High School Musical. And of course, they have a new series together on the CW network called Hellcats. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dropping at a rather alarming rate and some of us are worried the show won’t be renewed. It’s not a Disney show, but given it’s Disney connections, I’m assuming many of you may be interested. What do you think? Drop us a like at webmasters@savedisneyshows.org or find us on twitter or facebook.
Sharpays Fabulous Adventure DVD Signing

SDS Webmaster Greg, after many years of trying, finally met High School Musical actress Ashley Tisdale two weeks ago in LA at a DVD signing for her new movie Sharpays Fabulous Adventure. Unfortunately, this was before we realized that Hellcats might be in trouble (as mentioned above) so he didn’t mention anything about it. Oops! Be sure to check out her new movie, though.

Debby Ryan Meet and Greet

Webmaster Greg also attended Debby Ryan’s Meet and Greet in Long Beach CA on May 1st 2011. He briefly spoke with Debby and wished her luck with her new show. Perhaps more importantly, we also had the chance to speak with her mom and to let her know about both Greg’s Debby fansite Debby-Ryan.com and Save Disney Shows, should her new series Jessie ever need any help.

Posted on: Tuesday, April 12th, 2011 in: 10 Things I Hate About You, Disney Channel News, Lucy Hale, Make It or Break It, Pretty Little Liars, Save Disney Shows
This is a very interesting article about the new president of Disney’s ABC Family channel, Michael G. Riley, and the new shows he has been bringing to the channel and what he has in store for the coming months. From the promos that have started airing, I have to say that “The Nine Lives of Chloe King” looks like it could be a pretty good show. They also have a new project in the works staring Raven (from “Thats So Raven”).

The full article follows:
BURBANK, Calif. - If Michael G. Riley, the new president of ABC Family, comes across as a bit nervous these days, cut him some slack. Only seven months ago he was working in radio. Now hes about to lead a major expansion of one of televisions hottest brands.
ABC Family, the Walt Disney Companys cable channel aimed at older teenagers and young adults, plans to announce on Monday that it will add a third night of original programming each week. The channel will also start introducing original series year-round; until now it has almost exclusively introduced new programs in June.
To help stock its expanding schedule, ABC Family has ordered three new scripted dramas, including "The Nine Lives of Chloe King," about a girl who discovers she has special powers and is being hunted by an assassin. (Dan Berendsen, the force behind "Hannah Montana: The Movie" and several hit Disney Channel movies, is an executive producer.) A fourth new show will be a half-hour comedy starring Raven-Symon of "Thats So Raven" fame.
"We now have some beachfront television property in shows like "Pretty Little Liars, but there is so much more opportunity," Mr. Riley said. "Im focused on one thing, which is how are we keeping our foot on the accelerator."
The recent success of ABC Family has been nothing short of stunning. When Disney bought the channel in 2001 for a hefty $5.3 billion from the News Corporation and the media investor Haim Saban, it planned to show reruns from its broadcast network, ABC. But ratings plummeted without fresh programming.
The cable channel, founded as the Family Channel by the evangelist Pat Robertson, also had a contractual obligation to retain the world "family" in its name and run Mr. Robertsons "700 Club" talk show in perpetuity - not exactly conducive to creating a hip teenage TV brand.
Undeterred, Disney in 2004 hired Paul Lee, a former British Broadcasting Corporation executive, to run ABC Family, giving him marching orders to focus on the so-called millennial generation. Mr. Lee delivered a string of hits, including "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," a drama that stirred controversy by concentrating on a pregnant 15 year old.
With the arrival in 2010 of "Pretty Little Liars," a mystery centered on four best friends that became an immediate ratings success, ABC Family became a bona fide smash itself. It is now one of cables top 10 networks among adults 18 to 49.
ABC Family attracted an average of 580,000 viewers ages 12 to 34, its target demographic, in prime time 2010, a 49 percent increase from 2005. The channels primary competitor, the CW, has struggled to find new hits during this time - it passed on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" - and is seeking a new president.
"ABC Family has been riding a train of increasing success," said Kris Magel, a senior vice president at Initiative, a media-buying agency. "Advertisers value this channel. It delivers all the buzz and great ratings, with limited controversy."
Mr. Riley, 41, took over ABC Family in September after Mr. Lee was promoted to run the entertainment division of ABC. Overflowing with boyish charm - that is, when not in the presence of two Disney public relations executives, as he was during a recent interview here - Mr. Riley had been running Radio Disney, a string of 37 stations, for two years.
His hiring puzzled Hollywood - radio? - but Mr. Riley had previous television experience, albeit not on the creative side. From 1997 to 2008 he worked for Turner Broadcasting System in Europe, with responsibilities like drafting brand strategy for channels like Cartoon Network and TNT. Mr. Riley has an M.B.A. from the London Business School.
Mr. Riley, who is Canadian, quickly impressed Disney executives by throwing himself into learning and running the radio operation even though he wasnt overly excited by the medium. (When Rich Ross, now chairman of Walt Disney Studios, recruited him for the radio job, Mr. Riley made it clear he wanted a future in television.) His accomplishments at Radio Disney included expanding online efforts, integrating its programming more heavily with that of Disney Channel and greatly improving morale.
"Michael has a great understanding of brands and their importance in an ever-fragmenting media landscape," said Anne Sweeney, president of the Disney/ABC Television Group.
Because of the long gestation period for television shows, Mr. Riley has only begun to make his presence felt at ABC Family; all of the new series, for instance, were already in development at the channel when he arrived. He also has a strong lieutenant in Kate Juergens, executive vice president for original series programming and development.
But Mr.
"We love the authenticity of all of these shows, all of which have our hallmarks of heart, humor and optimism," Mr. Riley said.

Save Disney Shows has a New Look!

Save Disney Shows is proud to unveil our brand new and completely redesigned website. Webmaster Greg has built the new site completely from scratch, while still incorporating many of the unique tools and resources we have developed for our various movements over the years.
The new main page provides one click access to our most important sections on it’s standard left sidebar and convently displaysboth the next scheduled event and newest SDS news article on the right.

We’ve also redesigned each individual show’s section to mirror the format of the general SDS pages. Each individual show has it’s own unique themeing and also features customized information, news, and contacts most relevant to that particular show. However, many of our show sections like are still using temporary graphics. If you’d like to help us finish the site with your own personal touch, please email or tweet us.
New Movements Founded for JONAS (LA) and Sonny with a Chance

Disney has declined to renew the revamped J.O.N.A.S. / JONAS LA series for a third season citing among other issues, scheduling concerns.
In light of this development, and given the fact that the second season was considerably better than the first season, we have established a “Save JONAS” movement for the fans that have been asking for one. You can learn more here.

It’s no secret that Demi Lovato, Sonny Munroe herself, has fallen on some rather hard times recently. And with all the uncertainty surrounding her future availability, it’s hard to say what will happen to the show. The general consensus seems to indicate that the show will continue for season three, with or without her. Here at SDS, we seek to ensure both that the show continues and that it continues with Demi in her lead role.
As the first filming dates grow closer, we will continue to monitor the situation and possibly begin planning of future events as necessary on our new Save SWAC website.
December Disney Channel Highlights

The December schedule looks like it will rely fairly heavily on new episodes of Disney’s two new shows, Fish Hooks and Shake it Up.
There are also two new Wizards, a special Hannah, the Good Luck Charlie episode Webmaster Greg went to the filming for, and even a Christmas themed Suite Life: “A London Carol” - Cody and Bailey approach their friends to help out with their charity event, but London refuses. But when her magic mirror takes her to her past, present and future, she learns the importance of giving and being a good friend.

Disney 4th Quarter Profit Sinks 7%

Walt Disney Co. profit sank 7 percent during the final three months of its fiscal year, disappointing Wall Street as one-time adjustments dragged down the companys television networks and theme parks and more than offset gains from the blockbuster movie "Toy Story 3."
Disney made $835 million during the quarter, which ended Oct. 2, down from $895 million last year. Revenue dipped 1 percent to $9.7 billion.
Disneys full-year profit leapt 20 percent to just under $4 billion on revenue that was up 5 percent to $38.1 billion, thanks in large part to continuing advertising and affiliate-fee gains at ESPN and a slate of hit films that included "Toy Story 3," "Alice in Wonderland" and Marvel Entertainments "Iron Man 2."
Disney President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger called the year "a good one financially and strategically for our company."
Operating profit at Disneys media networks, which include ESPN, tumbled 18 percent from last year to $1.2 billion during the quarter but climbed 8 percent to $5.1 billion for the year.

Posted on: Monday, November 8th, 2010 in: 10 Things I Hate About You, ABC Family Shows, Disney Channel News, Meaghan Martin, Save Disney Shows
I’ve been meaning to post this article from EW about what would have happened in the second season of 10 Things I Hate About You had ABC Family not canned the show.
For fans of ABC Familys canceled series 10 Things I Hate About You, the Monday blahs are worse than usual. Where once fans had snappy dialogue, romance, and Ethan Peck to look forward to on Monday evenings, now there is just the empty void left by cancellation.
"I was telling someone it feels kind of like a breakup," 10 Things creator Carter Covington tells EW.com. "Like you got dumped by this person and youre like, "Wait a second. But we had such a great thing going on. Why would you dump me?" Before you start writing angry letters to ABC Family, know that Covington doesnt blame the network. "I know they loved the show," he says, adding, "I think they were in a difficult, difficult position to try to figure out how to market and bring back one half-hour comedy by itself."
For those frustrated by the series finales many cliffhangers, Covington sends his apologies: "Its really hard for me because theres nothing I would wish more than to have been able to have a series finale that really provided some closure for everybody." Even though that was impossible - production wrapped before the cancellation axe came down - Covington is satisfied with how things ended. "In the life of the series, to me, Kat and Patrick were always going to run off into the sunset together," he says. "In a way, Im happy that the series ended where it did because at least they were together."
But what about all the cliffhangers?! Unfortunately, well never see them play out. Nor will Ethan Peck be piercing through the TV screen every Monday. "I think that might be what my contribution to history is - bringing Ethan Peck into the consciousness of America," Convington laughs. But weve got the next best thing. Covington shared with EW.com what was in store for Kat, Bianca, Patrick, Joey, Cameron, and the rest of Padua Highs student body. Lets break it down cliffhanger by cliffhanger:
Cliffhanger #1: Walter walks in on Kat and Patrick together in bed. Naked. Surprisingly, the incident wasnt going to drive a wedge between the couple. Says Covington: "I really wanted to keep Kat and Patrick together as a couple because I think that their struggle to become closer is much more interesting than them being apart. The plan for season two was to have Walter walking in on them up the stakes of that. He was going to demand to meet Patricks parents, which was going to introduce his mother and his stepfather and let us get a greater insight into Patricks home life, which we were going to keep stressful and not ideal. We introduced that concept in the first 10 and we were going to see why Patricks home life is a stressful place for him.
"The idea was Patrick was going to have conflict with Kat. She is this driven girl who wants to go to college and sees herself being successful. And Patrick - we were really going to explore how hes a guy whos like, "College isnt in my future. Thats not who I am. Im not a student. I dont know what I want to do, but I know I dont want to go to college. Her mission was, "Of course you want to go to college. Everyone wants to go to college. And youre smart. She was really going to be sort of pushing him and that was going to turn him off because thats trying to change him. I think the end of season two was going to sort of end in a place of frustration between the two of them where shes like, "I just want the best for you, and hes like, "Who says you know whats best?
"We were going to develop a relationship between Walter and Patrick where Walter becomes a father-ish figure to Patrick. Hes never had sons and Patrick doesnt really have a father. That was going to be a nice thing so that when Kat is on the outs with Patrick, she finds that her father still has this relationship with him. In seeing Patricks family and learning more about him, Walter really becomes sympathetic and sees that Patrick really is a good guy whos had a tough road."
Cliffhanger #2: Where theres a happy Kat and Patrick, theres Blank? Yes, the British thorn in Kats side was going to stick around. Covington: "I was excited to explore who his family was. Blank serves as a counterpoint to Patrick because he is ambitious. He wants to go to college. Hes a thinker, not a doer like Patrick. We were going to evolve out that relationship and also show that through Blank and his mother, Kat has this connection to her mother and what she was like, which was going to be just a place for her to find out what her mom was like in a very similar time in her life." Does that mean wed see a love triangle? "Im not sure," Covington says. "I really liked the actor who played Blank. I liked the idea of Kat struggling with whether or not Patrick can fit into what her goals are in life. I like that idea. As much as everyone hates love triangles, sometimes you have to give that character a choice. Blank was going to be that choice, but we hadnt really figured out how we were going to do it because I really didnt want to get into a situation that felt like a predictable love triangle.
Cliffhanger #3: Patrick asks Kat to" What?! Walter chose this opportune moment to walk in on the twosome, so viewers never got to hear what favor Patrick was going to ask for from Kat. So what was he going to say? Covington is hesitant to give an answer, choosing to leave it open to interpretation rather than disappointing people. Then he admits, "We really didnt know. We were like, "Well figure that out when we get a season two." Fans, are you willing to accept that? No? Didnt think so. "With the way the season ended now, I would say he says, "Dont break my heart either, and she says, "OK," Covington reveals. "Because thats how the series should have ended in long-term."
Cliffhanger #4: Bianca sees Joey kiss another girl on The Biggest Poser. After getting evicted from the Poser house, Joey was going to come back to Padua with a little bit of his spark lost. That would have set the stage for more of an earned Bianca/Cameron/Joey love triangle. While having trouble dealing with the new Joey, Bianca was going to turn to Cameron. "What we always talked about with Bianca was what happens when youre genuinely in love with two people? Thats really what we wanted to build," Covington says.
Cliffhanger #5: Chastity transfers to a new school. She was really going to be gone! Dana Davis asked to be relieved from her contract to explore new opportunities. Biancas friend Dawn was going to made a series regular to fill the absence.
Covington also reveals that they planned to keep Kats Buddhist lifestyle and bring in a friend for her since Jolene Purdy (Mandela) got a role on another series.
PopWatchers, does that make you feel better about the series finale that wasnt supposed to be a series finale? What do you think about the season two plans? Are you more bummed than ever that you wont get to see Walter and Patrick bond?

There’s also a new Halloween special for Sonny with a Chance and The Suite Life on Deck (which Webmaster Greg says is a really good episode, and he would know because he went to the filming for that episode).
The Suite Life on Deck is also having a special cross over episode with Disney XD’s I’m In The Band.

A full list of new episodes coming in October along with episode air dates and summaries is available on the DC Fans Blog.

Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated. All proceeds received will be applied to our upcoming hosting renewal and to keep our campaigns running.

Suite Life Movie Announcement

Well, its official. Disney is making a Suite Life DCOM. There have been rumors of one circulating for a while, but what theyve actually come up for the plot seems rather strange.
As the story goes, teenage twins Cody and Zack Martin receive an opportunity to participate in the prestigious Gemini Project at a high-tech research center that studies the dynamics between twins. Soon they find themselves connected in a way theyve never been before: When one twin experiences a sensation, thought or feeling, the other twin feels it too. While this newfound power helps the boys see eye to eye for the first time, it ultimately puts them in more danger than they could have imagined.
Is this how Disney really intends to end the series?

It’s Halloween Time!
 |
Halloween is by far the best recruiting day of the year. All year long we spend a lot of time encouraging everyone to get out there and find more people who don’t yet know about our movement(s). This might be by posting flyers around town, wearing SDS merchandise, and/or by posting about us online.
But on Halloween, kids (and their parents) come right to your door. So put a couple flyers on it. Or pass out handouts with the candy. It’s a great opportunity for near free promotion that should not be wasted. Start printing your flyers and handouts now!
For your convenience, we’ve organized our available flyers and handouts on our Halloween Bash Website. Spread the Word! |
Hannah Montana Soundtrack

We all know that Hannah Montana season four will be the last for this series. And as a result, the last Hannah Montana soundtrack will be released this month.
The album covers much musical ground, from intimate ballads to straight-up high-voltage pop. "Gonna Get This" is a synth-laden pop duet between Miley and the Caribbean-based singer Iyaz, while the harmony-rich "Need a Little Love" pairs Miley with legendary singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow. Miley and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, sing together the ballad "Love That Lets Go," a fitting tribute to their close relationship, both on screen and off. The sentiment continues on "Been Here All Along" and the wistful farewell, "Ill Always Remember You." But the album kicks into high gear with upbeat rockers like "Kiss It Goodbye," "Im Still Good," and the club anthem "Are You Ready." The soulful "Ordinary Girl," "Que Sera" and the explosive pop of "Barefoot Cinderella" round out the albums 11 tracks.

Selena Gomez’s New CD & Concert Videos
Speaking of new Disney CDs, the greatest Disney girl still on the network, Selena Gomez, just released her sophomore album A Year Without Rain.

Selena’s new album doesn’t disappoint. From the title track “A Year Without Rain” to her single “Round & Round” this album really delivers. But if you want more, check out Webmaster Greg’s concert videos from Selena’s sold out show at the LA County Fair.

Greg met Ariana Grande!

And this has absolutely nothing to do with Disney, but over very own Webmaster Greg was lucky enough to hang out with some Nickelodeon stars including Ariana Grande of Victorious and the great Dan Schneider, creator of All That, The Amanda Show, Kenan and Kel, Zoey 101, iCarly, and more. It was all part of a fundraiser for St. Judes Childrens Hospital.

Michael Riley named president of ABC Family
The former president of ABC Family, Paul Lee, was recently promoted to President of ABC after Steve McPherson stepped down last month.

Well, now Disney has announced Lees replacement, Michael Riley, formerly of Radio Disney. Disney describes him as a "Respected television and radio executive" but only time will tell if he is up to the task of running the continually under-performing and under-promoted ABC Family channel.

“Ten-Things Mob” has organized a Protest outside Disney/ABC headquarters to get 10 Things I Hate About You renewed. This is not a sanctioned SDS event and we have no connection to the organizers of this event. But we did want our members to at least know about this event. You can find out more about the event on their facebook page.

Bridgit Mendler’s DCOM Lemonade Mouth
Be watching for Bridgit Mendler’s new DCOM ” Lemonade Mouth” sometime later this year or next. It sounds like they’re trying to make another High School Musical to me.

Production has begun in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on the music-driven "Lemonade Mouth," a Disney Channel Original Movie that tells kids and tweens that building your confidence rocks and finding your destiny rules. The story follows five disparate high school students who meet in detention, realize they are destined to rock, and ultimately form a band that becomes a champion for students sidelined by the high school elite.
Starring are: Bridgit Mendler (Disney Channels "Good Luck Charlie") as lead vocalist Olivia White, Adam Hicks (Disney XDs "Zeke and Luther") as keyboardist Wen Giford, Hayley Kiyoko (Disney Channels "Wizards of Waverly Place") as electric guitarist Stella Yamada, Naomi Scott (Disney Channel UKs "Life Bites") as bass guitarist Mohini, Blake Michael (who was discovered during an open casting call conducted by Disney Channels Worldwide) as percussionist Charlie Delgado, Nick Roux as Scott Pickett, Chris Brochu as Ray Beach from rival band Mudslide Crush, Tisha Campbell-Martin ("My Wife and Kids") as music teacher Miss Reznick and Christopher McDonald ("Family Law") as Principal Brenigan.

Carter Covington (developer, writer, and executive producer of 10 Things) recently confirmed that 10 Things has been canceled!
Here at Save Disney Shows, we believe it's always best to save a show before it's canceled, but we missed that boat and now it's time to dig in and do what we can do to try and get the show renewed. After all, what do we have to lose by trying?
